The first release of Quraany: the whole printed mushaf, a recitation to listen to and one that listens back — all of it on your own device.
New
- The mushaf as it is printed
- 604 pages of the Madinah mushaf, drawn as published, turned right-to-left the way a bound mushaf turns. Give it a landscape phone, a tablet or a desktop window and it opens into two facing leaves with a spine between them.
- A bar that says where you are
- surah, page, juz and hizb at once, down to which quarter of the hizb, and each one is also the way in. The page picker is a ruler rather than a list, so one flick crosses the mushaf.
- It reopens where you left it
- that leaf, that verse, still lit.
- Check your recitation
- read the open page aloud and words are marked as you say them: right, near, look again. Press a marked word and it tells you what it heard — which haraka came out wrong, which letter went missing, whether the madd ran short or a shadda dropped.
- Three levels of strictness
- gentle overlooks shadda, madd lengths, qalqala and ghunna; strict insists on all seven rules; custom is yours to set, rule by rule.
- Every sitting is kept
- each session is written down and recorded. Open an old one and its marks come back onto the leaf while your own voice plays, the highlight walking the line at the pace you recited it.
- Find a verse by reciting it
- a few words of any verse is enough; the mushaf turns to it and lights it. When it isn't certain it offers the closest verses rather than guessing.
- Thirteen complete recitations from ten reciters
- every one of them Hafs 'an 'Aasim, in murattal, mujawwad, mu'allim, and one recorded for children to repeat after.
- The page is the scrub bar
- light a word, press play, and the recitation begins at that word rather than at the top of the surah. The highlight follows word by word and the leaf turns itself when the voice crosses onto the next page.
- A silence to recite into
- after each verse the player holds a pause exactly as long as the verse just recited. Repeat any verse 1 to 10 times, at three speeds.
- It plays on with the phone locked
- with full lock-screen controls.
- Download recitations
- by surah or all at once, sizes shown before you commit, space reclaimable at any time.
- Five books, already on the device
- Tafsir al-Muyassar, the Sahih International translation, i'rab, word meanings and morphology. Hold a word down and the sheet rises; the arrows walk the mushaf one word or one verse at a time, straight across surah boundaries.
- Bookmarks
- one for reading and one for memorising, each drawn as a coloured pennant on the page itself. When both rest on one verse, it wears both colours.
- Notes
- write on a verse, or on a single word of it, and search by what you wrote, by surah, or by number, with Arabic matching that forgives spelling.
- Reminders
- the phone reminds you to read on the days and at the hour you choose, whether the app has been opened since or not.
- Arabic and English
- the whole interface in both. The mushaf stays in Arabic.
- Paper view
- a cut paper surface instead of glass, in either light: day, night, or whichever the device is in.
Security and privacy
- Nothing you recite leaves the device
- the speech recogniser runs on the phone, so both the checking and the voice search happen here. Your voice is never uploaded, because there is no server to upload it to.
- No account, no tracking
- no sign-in, no sync, and no analytics or telemetry SDK of any kind in the app.
- Your notes, sittings and bookmarks are yours
- they live on your device and nowhere else. Recordings state what they weigh, and nothing is removed behind your back.
- The mushaf is installed, not fetched
- the text, the pages, the divisions and the study library all ship with the app, so nothing on a network can change a letter of what you read. The network is used only for recitation audio you choose to download.
- Modified devices are refused
- release builds will not open on a rooted, jailbroken or emulated device, or on an Android phone with developer options switched on. A deterrent, not a guarantee.
- Free, and staying free
- no purchase, no subscription, no paywalled feature, no advertising. Not a launch promotion: the recogniser at the centre of the app is licensed on the condition that whatever ships it never charges.
